Handmade Holidays and Surgery

After making Arden’s Pottery Barn Inspired with a Hello Kitty twist toddler sleeping bag last week, I had the piece where I cut away the quilt covering Kitty’s face and decided to whip up a dollie sleeping bag.

She revels in making beds for her dollies to be in, so I’m sure this will be well-received on Christmas morning.  I’m just hoping there’s not dissapointment over the lack of a Hello Kitty applique’d face for a pillow…

My first Cabbage Patch doll Krissy Lynn offered to test it out for me.  She says it’s a good fit and that she really likes pink polka dots.

I also made Hadley my version of a Black Apple Doll using the pattern and tutorial from Martha Stewart.  I changed things up a little bit by adding seam allowances to all the pieces to make the doll a little larger, and I also took away the curve on the limbs.  I kept Hadley’s doll pretty simple and used fabrics I had on hand; hence the orange fleece hair seen previously in Sophie’s dog coat.  I also added the socks out of some orange denim which has been in mutiple past projects, and extended the dress fabric onto the arms as sleeves.
I have some pink fleece that I’m hoping to use for hair in one for Arden and I’ll embellish hers a bit more with buns or pigtails and some more details on the dress.  I’ll paint or embroider the faces on both dolls when they’re done.  Aaaand some changes of clothes if there’s time.  We’ll see how it goes since I wanted to have everything requiring a sewing machine done by Thursday since I had surgery on my foot yesterday.

But I think if I break up the sewing (and there’s not much machine sewing to a Black Apple doll) into short sessions and use my left foot I’ll be able to get it done.  Just not overly optimistic about clothes as well.  Oh, and I have some of those peg dolls I’m going to try to paint like our family (dogs/cats, and all!) to give to the girls.

So the surgery was to remove the Morton’s Neuroma which had developed on my right foot.  Think carpal tunnel syndrome on your foot.  Not so fun for a runner trying to get back to regular mileage.  So far my recovery is going really well.  I haven’t even needed the Tylenol 3 with Codeine since last night and even then I was just taking it to be sure I was okay after the long lasting pain releiver they injected during the surgery wore off.

So now you know what I’m up to in the last days before Christmas, what are you planning to finish?
